Executive Director of Yuvak Biradari

Yuvak Biradari (Bharat) is a national award winning organization working at pan- India level since 1974, cherishing the goals of humanity and nation building. It is a social, educational, cultural and youth movement in India. It has endeavoured to establish and promote Insaani Biradari (Universal Brotherhood). It also aims at strengthening the social fabric of India in order to realize the vision of a vibrant, prosperous, peaceful and enlightened nation.

At times, it seems that Yuvak Biradari is probably the only organisation of its kind in India that has evolved from an organisation to an institution and finally into a movement with a series of unique ideas and programs.

People with different attitudes are found in every field, but they typically fall into three categories: those who seek influence without effort, those who seek recognition for their work, and those who focus on doing meaningful work without seeking credit. Sunil Valavalkar belongs to the third group. Over the past three decades, he has consistently delivered remarkable work. He studied at the school run by educationist Arvind Vaidya. His father, Sadanand Valavalkar, was a lawyer, and his mother worked in a government office, giving him a stable and prosperous upbringing. The school instilled in him the value of social responsibility beyond one’s job. Alongside academics, it emphasized arts, sports, and culture, with regular lectures and discussions that nurtured self-respect and national pride. A gifted athlete, Valavalkar excelled in kho kho and kabaddi, competing at the university level. Even after joining government service and taking on greater responsibilities, he remained active in sports, forming kabaddi teams and playing tennis as a hobby.

Valavalkar was constantly overwhelmed by the social movements in his life. However, you should be able to do what you went.

Valavalkar joined the Youth Fraternity to further his passion for social engagement, though he remained active in movements like Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan, Lal Nishan, and Granthali. His self-respect and pride stem from his participation in a youth study exchange program in the Canada, organized by the Vishwa Yuvak Kendra in India. The course, focused on “Hopes and Expectations of Youth at the Global Level,” introduced him to the sport of pickleball. As a sports enthusiast, he was drawn to the game’s inclusivity, competitiveness, and joy. Inspired, he resolved to introduce it in India. Today, pickleball is played across 24 Indian states, with thousands of participants and international collaboration. Valavalkar, as the founder and Sr. Vice President of the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA), has played a key role in this sporting movement and remains deeply engaged in India’s evolving sports landscape.

Pickleball, a blend of lawn tennis, table tennis, and badminton, is gaining popularity worldwide for its simplicity and physical appeal. In India, the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) organizes competitions to promote the sport, with Valavalkar actively contributing through articles and regular blog updates for players and readers. Initially, his parents were unsure about his future, concerned that his passion for sports might not translate into a stable career. However, Valavalkar independently secured a job and reassured his family by aligning his career with his interests. Although support was limited at first, his commitment paid off—pickleball is now internationally recognized, and its growing popularity is something the entire family can take pride in.
